I know exactly what I'm supposed to do... but I'm still not doing it (work, career, world builder edition)
If there is one feeling I'm familiar with... it's this: Knowing what I'm supposed to do and still not doing it. And most of the time, I don’t give myself a hard time about it, but a couple of months ago I did it in a situation that really mattered to me.

I got on a call with someone I really admire. She's a writer and genius in my industry, and she agreed to have a chat with me about the World Builder stuff I've been working on. She really liked what I was exploring and suggested that I write an article on a specific topic.. and if I sent it to her, she’d introduce me to someone who runs a major publication. (an intro from her would have been a big deal!)
Did I do it? Nope. And I still haven't done it.
And it's been haunting me ever since... not just as a missed opportunity, but as a possible rupture to a relationship. (Will she think I'm lazy? That I don't care or value her offer? That I'm not good enough / talented enough??)
Anyway, it reminded me of something I already know (but clearly needed to re-learn):
KNOWING WHAT TO DO + WANTING TO DO IT
≠ DOESN'T MEAN DOING IT 🫠
It’s kind of like if you really wanted to go on a trip to the Maldives.
You're really motivated to go. You know exactly how to book your ticket, pack your suitcase and get on the plane. But you’re still not on a beach, are you?
Because even for something simple like booking a holiday, you have to line certain things up first: Money, time off, someone to go with, and to make sure your responsibilities are handled while you're out.
Now imagine when the thing you want to do is tied to your identity—like sharing your work, pitching an idea, asking for more money—it’s even harder. When it comes to our careers, businesses, or creative projects, there are more dimensions that need aligning before we actually "do the thing." We need to design our environments, self-image, and relationships around us to support us "doing the thing" ... otherwise it will stay just out of reach.
So this Thursday, join me for part 1 of a 3-part series for World Builder Studio members on:
How to design your life so "doing the thing" feels inevitable.
🗓 Part 1: Thursday, Nov 20th at 7PM (Part 2: Dec 4th, Part 3: Dec 18th)
